This luxurious neck warmer is 38 inches long (53cm) and approximately 6 inches wide (15cm). I created two similar pieces, and this one has a long extension in the front.
The fine, soft merino wool keeps you warm, while the silk feels smooth and sensuous against your skin. This unique neck warmer fastens with a hand-painted wooden button and hand-made loop, and there are two buttons so you can choose a closer or a looser fit.
I took merino wool yarn in swirling colors of purple, blue and red and merged it into an abstract, painterly look by machine stitching and hand felting it into a silk backing fabric, then I overstitched it with a decorative silk thread. The piece was then cut into a unique shape and extensively needle-felted to completely merge the wool surface. I then dyed and sewed in a matching lining of sueded charmeuse royal blue silk.
To make this piece, I used the techniques of dyeing, wet felting, needle felting, hand stitching and machine stitching to create a one-of-a-kind artistic accessory. It took about 35 hours to complete.
